Welcome to Preston Cricket Club, near Hitchin, Hertfordshire
Cricket has been played in Preston for about 130 years and we work hard to ensure we maintain our position as one of the premier clubs in the North Herts area. Our club is highly regarded as we pride ourselves on a focus on youth development, family friendly atmosphere and providing safe and competitive cricket for all.
Our ground, in Preston, is well know as one of the best cricketing facilities on the Northern Home Counties and we work to ensure that standard is reached. Our wicket is beautifully maintained and offers something for both batsman and bowler.
We put out 4 league sides on Saturday and 2 sides on a Sunday. On Saturday we play in the Saracens Hertfordshire League with our 1st Eleven playing in Division 2, 2nd Eleven in Division 5, 3rd Eleven in Division 10 and our 4th Eleven in Division 13. The 2011 season saw three out of our 4 league sides promoted which was a great achievement.
On Sunday we play in the Chess Valley League and we are usually able to field a 3rd X1 on Sunday as a development eleven playing friendly local cricket.
Our Colts Development Programme has been the main life-blood of the club, ensuring children are getting quality cricket coaching in a safe and nurturing environment. Once we are happy that our younger members have achieved a certain level of confidence, we encourage them to take part in senior cricket teams. We have a panel of CRB registered coaches who are all senior members of the club and volunteer their time to develop those children with a real interest in learning about cricket.
We also actively look at our members to become actively engaged with the club; to help with fund-raising, ground-maintenace, umpiring duties. Getting people involved with their club is key to a successful club both on and off the pitch.
Our social scene is fun and very active and this includes an annual tour in the UK, regular BBQ's and theme evenings in the summer with also pub tours, hikes and even a darts team in the winter months. We also have an annual Ball to celebrate the season.
Outdoor Nets are at Preston Cricket Club, 6pm to 8pm during the Summer Months. Winter Nets have started at Knight Templar School Baldock, 12-1 Sundays.
